He has been designing carnival costumes from 1977 and building carnival costumes from 1971.
During these years both he and his Associates (Invaders and Ali & Associates) have the enviable record of winning all the prestigious prizes in Mas. He started designing and leading his first Mas Troup (Invaders Mas Troup) in 1977 "Fancy Flag Wavers" and winning 1st Prize in the "Topical Fantasy" category. He was considered the "Best Wire Bender/Sculptor in Antigua by his Trinidadian tutor Mr. Harold Barreteau alias "Jesus" who worked at West Indies Oil Company as a welder and was also the leading carnival costume designer and builder in Antigua at the time, by the third year he worked with him.
Alister Thomas costumes have appeared in several international magazines and publication including the international carnival bible "So Yu Going to Carnival" and "African-American Traveler" to name two. International photo journalist have being captivated by his works and have had his works featured in carnival documentary on German television network.
