BLUE WAVE; Was the campaign slogan of the other major
party in Antigua, the United Progressive Party (UPP) the
incumbent, which lost two of their previous twelve in a
seventeen member parliament. Antigua now seem a
place of no political respite, a citizenry unwittingly
engulfed in an unending polarized political culture
against the interest of the masses
“REFLECTIONS OF THE TIME”
The Theme” is Ali & Associates 2009
presentation.
Concept by Alister Thomas, Designed
by Alister Thomas, Colored by Monica
David and Serwa Thomas.
The presentation depicts six (6) sections condensed, and
synergized to reflect an artistic portrayal and images of topical
themes and aspects of the living experiences of Antigua,
Caribbean, and globally.
“Reflections of the Times” seek to capture important, diverse and
complex themes relevant to a political culture, economical,
environmental and health concerns.
(1)
OBAMA MANIA; Every race, every color, every hue, a
rainbow coalition of humanity welcomed, and was
captivated by the nomination and election of Barack
Obama as the first African American, non-white
presidential candidate and eventual President.
(2)
GREEN POWER; Supporting the campaign for Alternative
or renewable energy, supporting a healthy environment
(3)
H1 N1; (referred to as “swine flu” early on) is a new
influenza virus causing illness in people. This new virus
was first detected in people in the United States in April
2009. Other countries, including Mexico and Canada,
have reported people sick with this new virus. This virus
is spreading from person-to-person, probably in much the
same way that regular seasonal influenza viruses spread.
(4) RED SURGE; Is one of the two major political parties in
Antigua (Antigua Labour Party ALP) which at the last General
elections held in March 2009 showed a dramatic surge in the
election result, with an increase of three additional seats to
their pre-election four, and a margin of two seats from
Government.
(5) BLUE WAVE; Was the campaign slogan of the other major
party in Antigua, the United Progressive Party (UPP) the
incumbent, which lost two of their previous twelve in a
seventeen member parliament. Antigua now seem a place
of no political respite, a citizenry unwittingly engulfed in an
unending polarized political culture against the interest of
the masses.
(6) GLOBAL FINANCIAL MELTDOWN. For most it’s
“Tsunami Monday” 15th September 2008. A global financial
meltdown which has not yet reached its climax and the
extent of its negative impact is unknown and unchartered
waters, even more so for Third World, Under-developed
and Developing Nations. It has shaken and undermined
the foundation of Western Capitalism, demanding an
urgently new and more equitable Global Financial &
Monetary System. The global financial crisis of
2008–2009 began in July 2007 when a loss of confidence
by investors in the value of securitized mortgages in the
United States resulted in a liquidity crisis that prompted a
substantial injection of capital into financial markets by the
United States Federal Reserve, Bank of England and the
Bank. The impact, repercussion, and fall-out on lives
globally are and will be dramatic and unprecedented since
the 1920’s
